Estimation of the Total Cost Equation of General Hospitals in Thailand

The estimation of the total cost equation of general hospitals is studied in the perspective of service providers. The objectives are to create a cost model for general hospitals and to study the factors affecting the total cost of 17 general hospitals by using the panel regression model. The results found that financial risk level, bed occupancy rate, number of beds, adjusted relative
weights, and case mix index are related to the total cost of the hospitals in the long term. The number of beds has the most significant effect on the hospitals’ expense, while the occupancy rate has the least impact. Moreover, the total cost of the hospitals does not change over time.
