Abstract
The objectives of the research entitled “Guidelines for Providing Social Welfare for the Development of the Quality of Life of the Elderly at Ban Siao Noi, Ban Lao Sub-district, Mueang District, Chaiyaphum Province” were to find out the appropriate guidelines for providing social welfare for the development of the quality of life of the elderly using community participation. This was a study of using qualitative methods. The population used in this research was the elderly aged 60 years and over living in Ban Siao Noi. For the qualitative research, 15 key figures of the community, including the representatives of the elderly, the community leaders, the folk philosophers, the village health volunteers and the staff from involved government agencies were the samples, The research tools were Semi-structured interviews, small group meeting and observation.
The research results were as follows.
The appropriate guidelines for the social welfare provision for improving the quality of life of the elderly are: 1) creating occupations and income for the elderly, 2) promoting public health facilities near their home, 3) providing facilities to maintain peace and safety in public places for the elderly, 4) establishing widespread and fair treatment for the elderly, 5) obtaining knowledge and occupations suitable for the elderly and 6) encouraging the elderly to travel and rest during the end of their life.
