The Development of English Reading and Writing Ability by Using SQ4R Learning Approach with Graphic Organizers of Prathomsuksa 4 Students

Abstract
The purposes of this research were to 1) develop a learning activity for English reading and writing of Prathomsuksa 4 students by using SQ4R learning approach with graphic organizers which had the efficiency based on the criteria of 75/75, 2) find the effectiveness index of learning by using SQ4R learning approach with graphic organizers, 3) compare English reading and writing ability of Prathomsuksa 4 students who learned by using SQ4R learning approach with graphic organizers with the criteria of 75 percent, and 4) study the students’ satisfaction with the learning activity organization for development of English reading and writing ability by using SQ4R learning approach with graphic organizers. The sample used in this research consisted of 27 students from Prathomsuksa 4/1, attending Srisawatwittaya municipal school, Mahasarakham municipality, in the second semester of the academic year 2018, which obtained using the cluster random sampling. The research instruments were 1) Lesson plans by using SQ4R learning approach with graphic organizers of Prathomsuksa 4 students, 2) an English reading ability test, 3) an English writing ability test and 4) a satisfaction questionnaire. The statistics used for the data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test (One Sample)
The results were as follows : 1) the development of learning activity for English reading and writing of Prathomsuksa 4 students by using SQ4R learning approach with graphic organizers which had the efficiency of 80.11/78.84 which was higher than the criteria, 2) the effectiveness index of learning by using SQ4R learning approach with graphic organizers were 0.6797 which showed that the students’ learning progress was at 67.97 percent, 3) English reading and writing ability of Prathomsuksa 4 students who learned by using SQ4R learning approach with graphic organizers were higher than the criteria at the significant level of .05 and 4) the students were satisfied with learning by using SQ4R learning approach with graphic organizers, on the whole, in the highest level (=4.53, S.D.=0.56).
