Russia’s Agenda-Setting in the Russian-Ukrainian Media War
Keywords:
Media War, Russian, Ukrainian, Agenda SettingAbstract
This academic article aims to study Russia’s agenda-setting in the Russian-Ukrainian media war. The study found that the integration of a large number of social media users with common opinions or approaches helped push the issue or story out to the mainstream of society. The mass media will follow popular trends and the interests of social media users and then select the content or issue to present through the media. It can be seen that the mass media still acts as a moderator according to the gatekeeping theory. However, nowadays, the importance of the media returns to focusing more on filtering the news from both true and false social media communications in accordance with the gatekeeping theory. Russia's communications through government media, such as Russia Today and Sputnik, aim to set agendas according to the government's wishes.
