INSCRIPTIONS OF NAKHON CHUM : THAI ORTHOGRAPHY, THAI CULTURE AND BUDDHISM IN THE REIGN OF SOMDET PHRAMAHATHAMMARACHA LITHAI

Inscriptions of Nakhon Chum in 1357 during the reign of King Maha Thammaracha Lithai (พระมหาธรรมราชาลิไทย in Thai) there are 36 consonant forms: ก ข ฃ ค ฅ ฆ ง จ ช ญ ฎ ฏ ฐ ณ ด ต ถ ท ธ น บ ป ผ ฝ พ ฟ ภ ม ย ร ล ว ศ ส ห อ in Thai, there are 19 vowels: อะ อา อิ อี อือ อุ อู เอ แอ โอะ โอ ออ เอีย เอือ อำ ใอ ไอ เอา ฦ in Thai, including an independent vowel is อือ in Thai. And 2 tonal symbols: Ek, Toh (cross-shaped), 2 symbol: ๐ in Thai and a dot above the letter (นิคหิต in Thai) and found 4 numbers: 1, 2, 7, 9. As for the Thai orthography, there are specific forms: 1. The vowels surround the consonants. 2. The Ai Mai Muan (ใ in Thai), The Ai Mai Malai (ไ in Thai) is higher than the consonants. 3. The vowels are floating next to each other 5. Use of tone placed at the first consonant 6. Use of facing letters. In addition, in the inscription of Nakhon Chum mentioned Thai culture and Buddhism in many respects: 1. Royal coronation 2. Astrology 3. Mention of Vesak Day 4. Creation of Phrasrirattanamahathat and planting of Phrasrimahaphot 5. Worship Phrasrirattanamahathat and Phrasrimahaphot 6. Mention of Buddhist scriptures. 7. Mention of precepts and discipline of monks. 8. The existence of Buddhism.
