Abstract

A Study of the Listening to Dhamma Ceremony for the Terminally Ill of Lanna Buddhists Based on the Anāthapiṇḍikovādasutta Objectives: To study the practice of listening to Dhamma for the terminally ill in Buddhism. To study the listening to Dhamma ceremony for the terminally ill of Lanna Buddhists. To present the listening to Dhamma ceremony for the terminally ill of Lanna Buddhists based on the Anāthapiṇḍikovādasutta. Methodology:This research is a documentary research. The researcher collected data primarily from documents and analyzed the data accordingly. Findings: The listening to Dhamma ceremony for the terminally ill of Lanna Buddhists based on the Anāthapiṇḍikovādasutta combines principles from the Anāthapiṇḍikovādasutta and the Dhammamahāvibāka. The process includes: Preparation (inviting monks, preparing the venue and offerings).Dhamma presentation (based on the Anāthapiṇḍikovādasutta or related Dhamma). Actions of relatives (participating in listening to Dhamma, caring for the patient, engaging in Dhamma discussions).Actions of the terminally ill (calming the mind, contemplating Dhamma, recalling meritorious deeds). The significance of the ceremony is to help the terminally ill attain peace of mind, prepare for passing away, express gratitude, and reflect Lanna culture. The listening to Dhamma for the terminally ill of Lanna Buddhists is a ritual that blends the Buddha's teachings with the beliefs and lifestyle of the Lanna people, aiming to help those who are about to depart maintain a calm mind and prepare for passing away mindfully.
