Economic Development and Its Ultimate Goals

Abstract

Economic Development is one of the important missions of many country government agenda. Economic Development is to ensure the living conditions, employment, and quality of life for the people in their country. This article reviews the background of development, economic development and modernization during the past periods. There are three findings showing that the Core Values of Development, which might become the main goal of economic development, are as follows: (1) Sustenance: The Ability to Meet Basic Needs or To help everyone be self-reliable and able to access the basic needs in life; (2) Self-Esteem: To Be a Person or To help people feel and reach the state of being a human who is respected and accepted, and appreciate themselves; (3) Freedom from Servitude: To Be Able to Choose or To help people have freedom, be independent and can make own decision or can decide own future.
