The Problem of Policy Restriction on the Rights of Thai Students' Hairstyles: A Case Study of Kanchanapisekwitthayalai Kalasin School

Abstract

This study aimed to examine students’ opinions regarding hairstyle preferences at Kanchanapisekwitthayalai Kalasin School. A quantitative research approach was employed, using a questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. Data were collected from a sample of 180 students and analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The results indicated that overall opinions toward students’ hairstyle preferences were at a high level (𝑥̅ = 3.95). When analyzed by specific aspects, all four dimensions showed high levels of agreement. The highest mean score was for the need for student participation (𝑥̅ = 3.97), followed by equality in hairstyle regulations (𝑥̅ = 3.96), awareness of hairstyle-related rights (𝑥̅ = 3.95), and freedom of hairstyle choice (𝑥̅ = 3.90). Based on the findings, the study recommends that school administrators and staff familiarize themselves with the Ministry of Education’s hairstyle regulations and adhere to them accordingly. Additionally, they should respect students’ rights, actively listen to their opinions, and collaborate with them to identify suitable solutions to emerging issues within the school.
