Development of Guidelines for Enhancing Trust and Promoting Transparency in the Government and Parliament through Public Participation: A Case Study of Roi Et Municipality

This research aims to examine the current state of public confidence and transparency in the government and parliament from the perspective of residents in Roi Et Municipality. The study also seeks to develop suitable recommendations to enhance confidence and promote transparency in the government and parliament through public participation. The informants were divided into two groups: (1) 67 residents of Roi Et Municipality and (2) four experts. Data were collected through participatory workshops and interviews, and analyzed using descriptive interpretation, triangulation, and content analysis.
The findings are summarized as follows:
(1) Informants from all groups expressed relatively low confidence in the transparency and trustworthiness of the government and parliament. This was attributed to several key reasons, including the government’s inability to deliver on election promises, ongoing political maneuvering, favoritism, and decreasing transparency.
(2) The recommendations for public participation include creating channels for public engagement and feedback, regularly monitoring and evaluating the government’s performance through various platforms, transparent communication and information disclosure, fostering transparency in the selection process of representatives to ensure the election of qualified individuals, and establishing an efficient system for receiving and responding to public feedback and suggestions.
