Presenting Participants Personal Data in Qualitative Research Report: Ethical Issues in Protecting Confidentiality of Research Participants

This academic article aims to present guidelines for applying ethical protocols to protect the confidentiality of research participants in qualitative research to avoid certain risks and harms resulting from providing data to researchers in quantitative research project. A non-systematic literature review was applied in this study and related literature was reviewed and data extraction was performed and utilized as a basis for writing up this academic article. The scope of this study comprised: (1) introduction to introduce the background and significance of the study; (2) literature review comprised the concepts of research ethics, principles of research eth1ics, confidentiality as a component of research ethics principles; ethical protocols as measure to protect confidentiality of research participants, (3) conclusions, (4) new findings from this study and (5) recommendations. It was found that confidentiality as one of the concepts of research ethics and ethical protocols related to confidentiality as a measure to protect research participants from certain potential risks and harms resulting from providing data to researchers have not been widely studied and publicized. Some researchers presented personal data of participants and photographs of a researcher interviewing a participant in a research article published in Thai journals in the Thai Journal Citation Index (TCI).
