Abstract

This research aims to study the factors affecting reading comprehension among Thai students, focusing on language skills, reading strategies, reading motivation, and environmental factors related to learning. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative research, collecting data through questionnaires and in-depth interviews with high school students in Thailand.
The research findings indicate that language skills, such as vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure, have a significant relationship with the ability to comprehend reading material. Additionally, reading strategies such as summarizing key points, asking questions, and using context to aid interpretation play a crucial role in helping students understand the text better.
Additionally, reading motivation, both in terms of personal interest and external motivation such as support from teachers and parents, significantly influences students' reading behavior. At the same time, the learning environment, including the classroom atmosphere, learning resources, and the use of technology to promote reading, are also factors that enhance students' reading comprehension.
Based on the study's findings, the researchers propose the development of teaching strategies that focus on enhancing language skills and using effective reading techniques, as well as creating an environment that promotes reading to improve Thai students' comprehension.
