Guidelines for Teaching Thai Using Applied Linguistics Concepts

Abstract
This research aims to study applied linguistics concepts that can be used in teaching Thai. Analyze the problems encountered in teaching Thai and present teaching approaches based on applied linguistics principles to enhance learners' learning efficiency. The research employed a mixed-methods approach by collecting data from Thai language teachers and students at the secondary and higher education levels through questionnaires. The research findings indicate that the approach to teaching Thai that integrates applied linguistics concepts, such as language analysis according to Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), The use of the language acquisition model based on Krashen's theory and the application of pragmatic concepts can help learners systematically develop their language skills, reduce language usage errors, and better understand the structure of the Thai language in appropriate contexts.
The recommendation from this research is that there should be a development of a more systematic Thai language teaching approach based on applied linguistics, as well as training teachers to effectively apply these concepts. Additionally, further research should be encouraged to study the effectiveness of such teaching approaches to improve Thai language education in the long term.
