Abstract

The objectives of this research were: (1) to analyze the components and processes involved in designing a board game to enhance motivation in learning basic English vocabularies, (2) to design a board game to enhance motivation in learning basic English vocabularies, and (3) to study students’ satisfaction with the developed board game. The population of this study consisted of primary school students at Chumchon 14 (Wat Don Thong) School. The sample group included 30 students aged between 5–12 years, selected by purposive sampling. Three experts evaluated the appropriateness of the board game’s design components and processes. The research instruments consisted of (1) a design evaluation form for the board game components and process, (2) the developed board game, and
(3) student satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including the mean and standard deviation.

The results found that a board game has four main components:
1) game mechanics, 2) vocabularies, 3) components, and 4) rules. The design process has four steps: 1) input, 2) game design process and mechanics, 3) output, and 4) feedback. The appropriateness of the board game design components and processes was rated at the highest level (M = 4.67–5.00). The developed board game enhanced students’ intrinsic motivation, fostering interest, challenge, and learner satisfaction. Additionally, students’ overall satisfaction with the board game was at the highest level (M = 4.51, SD = 0.71), indicating that the designed board game effectively stimulated motivation and promoted the learning of basic English vocabulary.
