Community Needs for a Conservation and Public Space Enhancement Model of Bueng Nong Waeng through Community Participation for Sustainable Shared Use and Healthy Ageing in Khon Sawan District, Chaiyaphum Province

Abstract

This study aimed to assess community needs for a conservation and public space enhancement model of Bueng Nong Waeng through community participation for sustainable shared use and healthy ageing in Khon Sawan District, Chaiyaphum Province. A survey research design was employed. The sample comprised 354 residents of Khon Sawan Subdistrict, selected from the study area. Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire with a content validity index ranging from 0.67 to 1.00 and a reliability coefficient (Cronbach’s alpha) of 0.89. Data collection was conducted between October and December 2025. Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, were used for data analysis.

          The findings revealed that the overall level of community needs for the proposed conservation and public space enhancement model was high (M = 3.09, SD = 0.35). When classified by component, all five dimensions were rated at a high level: community participation (M = 3.08, SD = 0.27), organized zoning (M = 3.10, SD = 0.41), nature and wildlife conservation (M = 3.09, SD = 0.46), scenic landscape and tourism (M = 3.09, SD = 0.47), and wellness for elderly people (M = 3.05, SD = 0.52). Therefore, local administrative organizations and other relevant agencies should utilize the findings of this needs assessment to inform policy formulation and strategic planning for the conservation and development of Bueng Nong Waeng public space in ways that are responsive to local contexts and community needs.
