The Development of Thai Script in Terms of Typography

Abstract
The design of Thai typography plays a crucial role in developing the identity of the language and communication in the digital age. This research focuses on studying the evolution of Thai script in the context of typography design, analyzing the approaches to creating Thai fonts that align with aesthetic principles and appropriate usage in contemporary media. The research relies on the historical study of the development of Thai script, from traditional forms in ancient documents to contemporary font design approaches that support usage in digital systems. It also includes interviews with typographers to understand the concepts and processes behind creating Thai fonts. Additionally, there are experiments in designing prototype fonts that consider factors such as readability, aesthetics, and adaptability across various platforms.
The study found that good Thai font design must consider the balance between cultural identity and modernity. Key factors affecting the success of Thai fonts include user-friendly letter structures, maintaining appropriate proportions of strokes and spaces, and developing diverse fonts to meet the needs of contemporary media. This research can serve as a guideline for font designers, developers, and those interested in Thai typography, aiming to promote the creation of high-quality fonts that align with digital usage.
