Pali Language and Buddhist Scripture Study

Abstract

This academic article aims to study the history of the Pali language and its importance in order to use it in studying various scriptures in Buddhism in order to gain understanding and be able to propagate Buddhism correctly. The study found that the Pali language or Magadhi language is the language of the ancient Magadhi people in India, which is the language used for communication and greeting. The Pali language is considered a very important language for Buddhism. Throughout the 45 years of the Buddhist monkhood, the Lord Buddha used Pali to proclaim his religion. Therefore, the Pali language preserves the Buddha’s words, which are the principles of the Lord Buddha’s teachings. Therefore, those who wish to study the Lord Buddha’s teachings should pay special attention to learning the Pali language. The Pali language is very important because it is the place where Buddhism exists and flourishes. Whether the Dharma will reform or change depends on thorough learning of the Pali language. The Pali language is therefore a very important key to leading the learner to a deep and correct understanding.
