Beliefs about Offering Candles in Buddhism

Abstract

This research article has two objectives: 1. to study the belief in offering candles in Buddhism and 2. to analyze the benefits of offering candles in Buddhism. This is a documentary research. The research results found that the belief in offering candles in Buddhism is a belief related to worship, called Amisabucha. The purpose of offering candles is to offer light. Currently, offering candles is popular during the Loi Krathong festival, influenced by the belief in the legend of the white crow and the worship of the Buddha’s footprint. In Lanna, there are beliefs about offering candles from two literary works inscribed on palm leaves: 1) Thammaka Phueak, which has a belief in worshiping gratitude and 2) Tham Anisong, which has a belief in the benefit of offering candles, which has a belief in making the skin bright like the light of the candle. Will be intelligent and have a lot of wealth. In addition, worshiping the lantern is also believed to be worship according to the Dhamma verses that appear in the establishment of the royal Dhamma.
