Mindfulness of Death in the Tripitaka

Abstract

This academic article aims to study mindfulness of death in the Tripitaka, in terms of meaning, types, methods of developing mindfulness of death, and benefits of mindfulness of death. The Tripitaka mentions a lot about mindfulness of death, and it is one of the objects of Samatha meditation. Those who develop mindfulness of death will be able to live a careful life and be mindful in their work. The approach to developing mindfulness of death requires an understanding of the principles of Dhamma as a foundation, such as the principle of the three characteristics, principles of living life, and principles of contemplating mindfulness of death, in order to truly create benefits. Those who develop mindfulness of death regularly will experience four benefits for themselves: 1. The mind can quickly attain concentration, 2. Be aware of changes in the body, 3. Be aware of the truth of life, and 4. Know how to prepare before death.
