A Buddhist Based Approach to Foreign Exchange Asset Investment
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article has three objectives: 1) to study Buddhist principles related to investment in foreign exchange assets; 2) to examine the context and problems of investment in foreign exchange assets; and 3) to analyze Buddhist principles applicable to investment in foreign exchange assets. This study employed a qualitative research methodology, using documentary research and interviews with 20 monastic and lay informants. The data were analyzed through content analysis.
The findings revealed that sustainable investment does not depend solely on technical competence, but also requires the systematic integration of Buddhist principles into the decision-making process. The key Buddhist principles include the Three Characteristics, mindfulness, patience, the Four Bases of Success, Pāpaṇika-dhamma, Diṭṭhadhammikattha-payoja, Bhogavibhāga, and Gihisukha. These principles help promote discipline, emotional control, risk management, and proper wealth management.
The context of the foreign exchange market is highly volatile, rapidly changing, and intensely competitive. Some investors still lack fundamental knowledge and risk management skills, and often make decisions under the influence of greed and fear, leading to repeated mistakes and losses.
The Buddhist Investment Integration Process, or BIIP Model, connects life goals, Buddhist principles, and investment practices. It places mindfulness, wisdom, and discipline at the core, leading to financial stability, mental balance, and long-term investment sustainability.
