The Faith in Kruba Srivichai and Its Influence on Contemporary Lanna Buddhists

Abstract

This study aims to examine the faith in Kruba Srivichai and its influence on contemporary Lanna Buddhists, particularly in the dimensions of belief, religious practices, and the transmission of local culture. According to historical evidence, Kruba Srivichai, also known as Kruba Chao Srivichai, was a revered saintly monk of Lanna, widely respected by Buddhists in Northern Thailand. The faith in him has profoundly influenced the way of life, beliefs, and religious practices of the Lanna people. The study employed document analysis, interviews with knowledgeable individuals, and observation of community religious practices. The findings reveal that the faith in Kruba Srivichai influences contemporary Lanna Buddhists in five key aspects: 1.The preservation and transmission of Lanna Buddhist traditions and culture. 2.The strengthening of community cohesion through religious activities. 3.The promotion of moral and ethical development in society. 4.The cultivation of cultural identity and pride in Lanna heritage. 5.The adaptation and continuation of faith in the digital era. These five aspects demonstrate that faith in Kruba Srivichai is not merely a matter of personal belief but also serves as a vital driving force in preserving and developing the cultural identity of Lanna society in the present day.
