Poi Ton Ho Lom Tradition in Mae Hong Son Province

Abstract

This academic article aims to study the history and background of the Buddhist principles that appear in the Poi Ton Hor Lom tradition in Mae Hong Son Province.
It was found that Poi Ton Hor Lom is an event held to honor the Lord Buddha who descended to the human world. The organization of the Poi Ton Hor Lom tradition has gradually faded away because the rituals have many steps and details, requiring the use of traditional Tai craftsmen or scholars. It was found that only two temples in Mae Hong Son Province still hold the Poi Ton Hor Lom tradition. The knowledge gained through religious rituals and Buddhist principles that appear in the Poi Ton Hor Lom tradition are the Buddhist principles that appear in the aspects of gratitude, unity, giving alms, and good friends.
