A Study of the Text of the Kap Hor Khlong Praphas Tarn Thongdaeng and Kap Hae Ruea of Prince Thammathibet in the Textbook of the Basic Thai Language Literary Appreciation: for Teaching Management

Abstract

   This academic article aimed to study Kap Hor Khlong Praphas Tarn Thongdaeng and Kap Hae Ruea, composed by Prince Thammathibet, and to employed the content for teaching management. After the study of the background information, it was found that Prince Thammathibet composed these two poems in the same period around 1751 - 1758 CE. The poems were written when the Prince followed His Majesty the King Boromakot to Phra Phutthabat Temple in Saraburi for worshiping the Buddha's footprint through the minor Royal Barge Procession. Prince Thammathibet composed Kap Hae Ruea first following by Kap Hor Khlong Praphas Than Thong Daeng. The findings about content relevant to instructional design revealed that Kap He Ruea features various types of royal barges, including the main royal barge, secondary royal barges, animal-shaped barges, and twin-towed barges. The poem reflects Prince Thammathibet’s emotions, his pride in Thai cultural heritage, the joy and sorrow derived from his love life, his admiration for the lady he loved, and his constant longing for her. Meanwhile, Kap Hor Khlong Praphas Tarn Thongdaeng revealed aspects of the Prince’s personality including his deep appreciation of nature, the joy he found in being surrounded by it, and his moods that shifted in harmony with the natural environment. The poem also reflects his self-confidence and open-mindedness, as he graciously permitted readers to revise his work when they discovered any errors.
